Inside HIVE Sentinel: Turning Live Data into Underwriting Foresight
Aviation war risk does not stand still. Aircraft move continuously across airspaces, jurisdictions and threat environments, often carrying asset values that can shift an entire portfolio in a matter of hours. In that context, underwriting decisions can no longer rely on static snapshots of exposure.
At HIVE Underwriters, our proprietary tech platform HIVE Sentinel plays a central role in how we translate live data into underwriting knowledge.
Developed in-house with specialist partners, Hive Sentinel is our proprietary flight accumulation, aggregation and tracking capability. It provides a live, global view of more than 30,000 aircraft in the air or on the ground at any moment, bringing together fair market value, insured value, HIVE’s participation and a real-time war risk threat assessment for each asset.
This allows our underwriters to see accumulations as they build, understand how exposures align with policy limits and aggregates, and respond immediately when geopolitical or operational events occur. It moves underwriting away from assumptions and lagged reporting, and towards real-time, evidence-based decision-making.
In the video below, Bruce Carman, CEO, and David Langran, Class Underwriter, explain how HIVE Sentinel supports Hive’s knowledge-led underwriting approach, combining deep aviation expertise with purpose-built technology to anticipate risk, quantify exposure and act with confidence in a rapidly changing risk landscape.
